![]() What you may see at States this year
My guess is as good as yours when it comes to the new metagame. This hasn't been played before. What can we expect for State Championships? In this article I will go into some of the decks you can expect to see.
REBELS
This is the obvious choice for the most common deck but, with this being quite popular undoubtedly a fair bit of hate may show up for it. 4 Ramosian Sergeant 4 Steadfast Guard 4 Fresh Volunteers 4 Longbow Archer 2 Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero 1 Nightwind Glider 1 Thermal Glider 2 Reverent Mantra 2 Armageddon 4 Parallax Wave 4 Seal of Cleansing 2 Last Breath 21 Plains 1 Kor Haven 4 Rishadan PortIn this version you have your own hate against rebels with Last Breath for an opposing Lin Sivvi. A Parallax Waved Lin Sivvi belonging to your opponent doesn't exactly like coming back when you have played your own. RISING WATERS Many different versions of waters may be popular. The one I am testing at the moment is a U/W version for cards like Kismet and Wrath of God. The main core of Rising Waters should stay the same however: 4 Rishadan Port 4 Rising Waters 4 Gush 4 Sky Diamond/Eye of Ramos/CameoENCHANTRESS This is a deck that has been most likely overlooked by most players. This will utilize Verduran Enchantress. 4 Verduran Enchantress 4 Wild Growth 4 Fertile Ground 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Wordly Tutor 4 Sterling Grove 4 Ancestral Mask 4 Armadillo Cloak 4 Charging Troll 4 Elfhame Sanctuary 4 Brushland 8 Forest 4 PlainsBLASTO/MUNGHA GEDDON This deck works by getting out a few quick mana producers, dropping a fatty then Armageddoning leaving your opponent helpless. 4 Armageddon 4 Tangle Wire 4 Mungha Wurm 4 Blastoderm 2 Blinding Angel 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Quirion Elves 4 Vine Trellis 18 Forest 8 PlainsTIDE-ANKH This deck works by tying up all your land, with an Ankh of Mishra out for damage or just to keep you from casting that crucial spell. 4 Parallax Tide 4 Ankh of Mishra 4 Boomerang 4 Hoodwink 4 Counterspell 4 Disrupt 4 Thwart 4 Accumulated Knowledge 4 Gush 2 Foil 4 Rishadan Port 22 IslandPONZA Again, this is just land disruption and burning whatever they can get out. 4 Stone Rain 4 Pillage 2 Tectonic Break 4 Seismic Mage 4 Flowstone Overseer 4 Seal of Fire 4 Shock 2 Hammer of Bogardan 4 Urza's Rage 18 Mountain 4 Rishadan Port 4 Sandstone Needle 2 Dust BowlASHNOD'S ELVES This deck works by smacking your opponent with a bunch of saprolings and elves or blazing for 20. [Ed: What about Vitalizing Wind?] 4 Ashnod's Altar 4 Llanowar Elves 4 Birds of Paradise 4 Vine Trellis 4 Quirion Elves 4 Wild Growth 4 Utopia Tree 4 Blaze 4 Saproling Symbiosis 4 Spontaneous Generation 4 Karplusan Forest 4 Shivan Oasis 2 Mountain 10 ForestBLACK CONTROL This is pretty much hate to whatever decks run creatures. 4 Massacre 1 Perish 1 Spreading Plague 1 Tsabo's Decree 4 Snuff out 4 Forced March 4 Vicious Hunger 4 Vampiric Tutor 2 Vendetta 3 Thrashing Wumpus 3 Nether Spirit 1 Haunted Crossroads 2 Ascendant Evincar 4 Rishadan Port 2 Dust Bowl 18 SwampMy personal choice for states would be either Ashnod's Elves or Enchantress, as both decks are combo like in that they just go off during 1 turn. For both decks this is normally turn 4. This relies on getting all the cards I need, which won't be easy, people who know me will know why!
