Deck-building in Limited
You'll probably notice straightaway that this is a very short article - consider it a pre-article, or an attempt at some research with which to write something proper. I have often found it interesting to watch people draft and discern why they have chosen the cards that they have chosen - then watch them build their deck and see what they choose to put in it. Invariably, I would have made some different choices to the ones they have, and that is the beautiful thing about Magic. What I'd like to do now is offer up a set of cards - a theoretical list of playable cards from an Onslaught draft. After seeing this list of cards, I would ask for a bit of feedback, in the form of the following questions. 1) Which cards would you cut (and why?) I think this will be an interesting way to see how people differ in their deckbuilding strategies - or if people HAVE a deckbuilding strategy. I have often seen people draft what I consider to be an amazing amount of quality cards - only to see half of them end up in the sideboard. So, listed below are 31 cards that may or may not have been actually drafted in a Thursday night draft at SGC. You can click the "email the author" link at the bottom of this article to tell me what you think. Assuming some people would be bothered enough to respond, I'll post the results in the next article. Red 2 Pinpoint Avalanches 1 Lavamancer's Skill 1 Solar Blast 1 Skirk Commando 1 Nosy Goblin 1 Sparksmith 2 Goblin Sledders 1 Charging Slateback 1 Avarax 1 Fever Charm Blue 2 Mistform Wall 1 Ascending Aven 1 Mistform Dreamer 1 Choking Tethers 1 Future Sight 1 Imagecrafter 1 Information Dealer 1 Graxiplon 1 Complicate 2 Riptide Biologist 1 Backslide White 1 Pacifism 2 Daru Crusaders 1 Daunting Defender 2 Gustcloak Harrier That should be 31 potential cards to build a deck around. I will keep this short for the time being - in the next article, I'll post how I would personally build the deck, along with some of the responses from yourselves. Until then, Scott Hunstad [ Email the Author | Discuss this Article ]
