INVASION - What's Hot and What's Not

Hello, my dear Magic lovers! I know you are all very excited about the release of Invasion. Well ... so am I! When I heard about the release of the spoiler at MTGnews, I copied and pasted all the resources I can get from it, and I thought about our new block's potential of beating Saga.

What I want to do is to give you advice about cards you should keep, cards which will be hot. Trust me, my predictions were very accurate when I told my friends what was going to be hot in Mercadian block. I remember one of my friend not listening to me and trading a Rishadan Port for a High Market!

OK, here are the goodies you'd better keep:

RED

Skizzik
Card Color: Red
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 3R
Card Type: Creature - Elemental
Card Text:
Kicker R (You may pay an additional R as you play this spell.)
Trample; haste (This creature may attack and Tap the turn it
comes under your control.) At end of turn, sacrifice Skizzik
unless the kicker cost was paid.

Wow! What a reaper! It's as good as our old Ball Lightning. It not only has the potential of a fast 5 damage on turn 3 or 4, it can stay permanently if you just pay one tiny R! I think it will be a "must" for the new standard red. So keep it.
Urza's Rage
Card Color: Red
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 2R
Card Type: Instant
Card Text:
Kicker 8R (You may pay an additional 8R as you play this spell.)
Urza's Rage can't be countered by spells or abilities. Urza's
Rage deals 3 damage to target creature or player. If you paid the
kicker cost, instead Urza's Rage deals 10 damage to that creature
or player and the damage can't be prevented.
Oh my gosh, Hammer's new rival! Must have! 3 damage which cannot be countered? And also an instant? Pay 8R and it becomes a Searing Wind? Get it or you are missing out! This card has a cool name, cool picture, cool abilities and, I hope, cool value.
GREEN

Utopia Tree
Card Color: Green
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 1G
Card Type: Creature - Plant
Card Text:
Tap: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool
0/2
How cute! A new Bird of Paradise! I reckon it is better, considering it's a new card! This card is going to sell for at least $7 since Invasion is a multicolour set. If you don't want them, give them to me PLEASE!
Kavu Titan
Card Color: Green
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 1G
Card Type: Creature - Kavu
Card Text:
Kicker 2G (You may pay an additional 2G as you play this spell.)
If you paid the kicker cost, Kavu Titan comes into play with
three +1/+1 counters on it and has trample.
2/2
Damn good! Grizzly Bears in the early game and a Force of Nature later. This card is very playable and solid! If you have a chance, get it. It has a high potential of becoming WANTED. Vine Dryads were not popular in the beginning but now they are easily traded at the value of $8 or higher, so who knows?
BLUE

Teferi's Response
Card Color: Blue
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 1U
Card Type: Instant
Card Text:
Counter target spell or ability an opponent controls that targets
a land you control. If a permanent's ability is countered this
way, destroy that permanent. Draw two cards.
It might not be that "zapping" but considering Ponza and Rishadan Port, it can be a great sideboard card. Also, drawing two cards can be a game changer! Imagine the look on your opponent's face when you blow up his Port and he gets mana screwed!
Blind Seer
Card Color: Blue
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 2UU
Card Type: Creature - Legend
Card Text:
1U: Target spell or permanent becomes the color of your choice.
2/2
Old players should remember those Laces in old editions (Lifelace, Deathlace, Chaoslace etc). This card is good. It can get protection from most black removal spells by making itself and other creatures you control black. It can be very annoying and cool, so keep your eyes on it (even though he is blind).
Multicolour

Noble Panther
Card Color: Multi
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 1GW
Card Type: Creature - Cat
Card Text:
1: Noble Panther gains first strike until end of turn.
3/3
Very noble indeed! I have read many prerelease tournament reports and there were so many games won singlehandly by this fellow. It's very, very playable!
Sabertooth Nishoba
Card Color: Multi
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 4GW
Card Type: Creature - Beast
Card Text:
Trample, protection from blue, protection from red
5/5
I think a G/W deck will be very strong. There are cards like Charging Troll (the best uncommon, I reckon), Noble Panther, and this guy. Wow, they are certainly chunky and annoying. I think this guy is a limited deck's dream!
Hanna, Ship's Navigator
Card Color: Multi
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 1WU
Card Type: Creature - Legend
Card Text:
1WU, Tap: Return target artifact or enchantment card from your
graveyard to your hand.
1/2
We have to thank Wizard of the Coast for printing this card. Not only is Hanna one of the most popular Weatherlight crew (Squee is my favourite), she is so powerful. Just think about Parallax Waves and Tides with her! See? And Tsabo's Web; keep drawing those cards!
BLACK

Do or Die
Card Color: Black
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 1B
Card Type: Sorcery
Card Text:
Separate all creatures target player controls into two face-up
piles. Destroy all creatures in the pile of that player's choice.
They can't be regenerated.
I want it! It's so good! It's fast and wicked! Getting rid of those annoying Jeweled Spirits and Cho-Manno's Blessed creatures and Morphlings is just incredible! Here is a tip: when you separate your opponent's creatures, make the 2 piles fairly even so he can't keep all of his good ones.
ARTIFACT

Tsabo's Web
Card Color: Artifact
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 2
Card Type: Artifact
Card Text:
When Tsabo's Web comes into play, draw a card. Lands with an
activated ability that doesn't produce mana don't untap during
their controllers' untap steps.
Just get it. It's one of the best cards! Anti-Port, Bowl, Edge and more! And you get to draw a card? YOU TELL ME THIS CARD IS BAD!
Planar Portal
Card Color: Artifact
Rarity: R
Casting Cost: 6
Card Type: Artifact
Card Text:
6, Tap: Search your library for a card and put that card into
your hand. Then shuffle your library.
If you can cast it fast and use it well, there is no doubt it is one of the best cards ever printed! (If you are a casual player, use Voltaic key and Tolarian Academy. :-) )

Well, that's about it folks! I think I missed a few more good ones but you can figure it out. I hope I gave you good tips, and try to hold on these cards. If they become hot, please contact me and make me proud!

Send mail to Oneki@pacific.net.au and we can meet at Games Paradise or something.
